Here we turn back the clock 55 years to find pop star Billy Fury playing Boston’s Gliderdrome.

Fury – born Ronald Wycherley – enjoyed three top 40 UK hits that year and across the decade equalled The Beatles’ record tally of 24.

He had been booked to play the Gliderdrome two years previously but ‘refused to go on with the show’.

In a review of the 1965 show by Mick Field, he described how Fury had matured and showed considerable talent on stage.

“He is almost too good for ballroom audiences,” wrote Mick. “This is no longer a man to scream to, but a man to listen to.”
